ASA announces Futsal Manager, Camps & Tournaments Manager

Alexandria Soccer Association (ASA) is thrilled to formally welcome two well-known faces who need no introduction, Ben Hawkins—Camps & Tournaments Manager and Tim Lenzo—Futsal Programs Manager. Ben & Tim join the ASA Program Management Team in a full-time capacity to oversee camps, tournaments, Futsal Ball Mastery and the Futsal League, respectively.

Ben and Tim have each worked in and across almost all ASA programs over the past several years. In addition to being beloved coaches in supplementary programs and camps both coach in the Academy and Futsal ID programs and have even been known to lace up the cleats and play a bit on ASA adult teams.

Over the past several years Ben Hawkins has overseen ASA summer camp programming and provided support for yearly tournaments. His new full-time role encompasses curriculum development for camps, staff training, tournament organization and team recruitment, and more. Ben’s experience in and knowledge of ASA programming give him a step up as he looks to develop both aspects of ASA’s yearly offerings.

Coach Ben poses with his team after winning the 2019 Futsal Cup.

Alexandria’s five yearly tournaments (covering seven weekends) are an economic benefit to the community and provide high level competition for ASA’s Academy teams. With his experience, Ben is perfectly situated to build on and oversee the tournament series as ASA strives to provide a high quality experience year after year. “Ben has been a tremendous asset to our tournament and camp program teams for the last few years. The growth and success of our camps can be traced to his attention to detail, ability to think outside the box and connection to serving the community. Our tournament platforms have expanded to regularly include teams from up and down the east coast and Canada which has required us to build strategic relationships with surrounding clubs, counties and venues to continue to provide the gold standard experience. I’m excited to support Ben’s vision and continued growth of our tournaments.”

Ben said, “After working with the club for the past 4 years and embedding myself in our community I’m thrilled to join the full time staff! I look forward to leading our camps and tournament programs in addition to continuing my on field coaching. With the continued support of our incredible ASA staff I look forward to facilitating programs that create positive moments and memories for our youth as well as provide opportunities to our members to grow as soccer players, employees, and people.”

Tim “Living the Dream” Lenzo brings his energy and strong organizational skills to his role overseeing the Futsal League and Futsal Ball Mastery. This includes everything from programming to scheduling to curriculum development to staff training and more. Tim kicked off his full time position by offering three sessions of Futsal Ball Mastery this winter (more than ever before!) and overseeing a truly unique and challenging outdoor Futsal League for 200+ teams.

One of the largest in the country, the ASA Winter Futsal League offers high level competition for teams and clubs from around the region. Tim will continue to grow the league experience and help ASA set the standard for futsal play in the United States. Tim said, “I am thrilled for the opportunity to continue serving the Alexandria community and soccer club. Over the past years Alexandria has become my home and I can’t wait to continue helping the programs grow—from our most competitive Academy program, to our Recreational program—and new initiatives such as Camp Alex and School+.”

Coach Tim poses with team after a tournament victory!

Chris Arnold, Deputy Director of Academy and Futsal said, “It’s not always easy to find people who embody the organization’s goals, values, and desired outcomes every day. However, Tim does just that! We are fortunate to have Tim join our full time team after years of coaching and cross-program support and are looking forward to his continued energy, work-ethic, and leadership as we strive toward gold standard programming for youth in our area.”

Ben and Tim join eleven full time ASA staff members to round out an experienced and driven team. The addition of these full time roles will help ASA provide a gold standard experience on and off the field to kids all ages.
