Junior Academy
Taking it to the next level
Junior Academy is ASA’s developmental training pathway for young players who want to build confidence, improve technique, and continue progressing within the club. Under the Junior Academy umbrella are three options — Junior Academy Skills, Junior Academy Select, and an optional Winter Futsal opportunity.

Junior Academy Futsal (Winter)
JA Select players have the opportunity to participate in an optional Winter Futsal Program. Players register individually, and Junior Academy Director Grigor Boychev will place players on teams based on age and ability to create a fun and competitive learning environment.
Junior Academy Skills

Junior Academy Select
JA Select is designed for recreational players who are ready for more training and are motivated to take the next step in their development. Players are identified by ASA staff coaches at ID Days and invited into the program, where they train with professional coaches and compete in local games against Junior Academy teams from other clubs. Many participants continue to play on a Rec League team while also playing in Junior Academy Select.
The curriculum focuses on first touch, dribbling, passing and receiving, game awareness, tactical spacing, and learning how to compete in a structured team environment. Coaches also emphasize respect for teammates, opponents, referees, and coaches, as well as the importance of giving consistent effort.
JA Select is a yearly commitment, with players training in both the fall and spring. Participation does not guarantee a roster spot in the Academy (travel) program at U9, but it prepares players for that level of play.
The upcoming season is for kids born between 08/01/2018 and 07/31/2021.

Winter Futsal
Futsal Info!
JA Select players may opt to participate in an optional Winter Futsal Program. Players register individually, and Junior Academy Director Grigor Boychev will place players on teams based on age and ability to create a fun and competitive learning environment. The experience is designed to mirror the outdoor Junior Academy environment that families know, while shifting games to indoor courts for the winter season. Practices may be held indoors or outdoors on courts, based on facility availability.
The winter season runs from early December through the end of February, with teams practicing one to two times per week. This is an optional program that requires a separate registration and additional fee, and families are encouraged to participate to stay active during the winter months. Grigor will organize the program in collaboration with ASA’s futsal staff, and there may be a mix of internal ASA teams and appropriately matched external opponents to provide the right level of competition.
Futsal is widely recognized as one of the best environments for developing young players. The fast-paced game emphasizes ball control, quick decision-making, creativity, technical skills, and comfort in tight spaces. Many of the world’s top soccer nations have embraced futsal as a key part of player development, helping produce technically gifted and confident players.
More information regarding winter futsal registration, schedules, and fees will be shared with JA select participation in the fall.
Junior Academy Skills
Build the Foundation. Unlock the Player. Extra touches. Individual attention.
JA Skills is an energetic, development-focused program for PreK through 2nd grade players who want to build confidence and become more comfortable on the ball. Open to both beginners and motivated young players, the program uses high-repetition technical training to develop dribbling, first touch, turning, 1v1 moves, and creative footwork in a fun, supportive environment.
Players are grouped appropriately by age and ability so that each child is challenged at the right level. Beginners build a strong technical foundation, while more advanced players are pushed with faster decisions, greater detail, and higher technical demands. Led by experienced ASA coaches, JA Skills focuses on individual development in an environment that is challenging, supportive, and fun.
This is where players build the foundation for future growth in JA Select, Academy, AGP, and Rec League.
