Future Leader Program (rising 7th graders)
Prepare for your future — while making a difference this summer!
We are excited to introduce a new Leadership & Work Experience Program for ASA participants entering 7th or 8th grade.
This program is designed to help participants build the foundational skills needed to enter the workforce — all within the fun, team-centered environment of ASA Summer Camps. Under the mentorship of experienced ASA staff, participants will:
- Take part in skill-based workshops focused on leadership, communication, and teamwork.
- Receive guided mentorship and continuous feedback throughout the summer.
- Gain hands-on experience supporting camp activities and operations.
The goal of the program is to create a pathway toward becoming an ASA Camp Counselor by combining education, experience, and mentorship. Participants will be challenged to grow in a variety of roles and responsibilities — always supported by their mentors and the camp staff team.
Program Components:
Orientation:
An introductory session covering ASA’s camp mission, core values, policies, and safety protocols to ensure participants start the summer fully prepared.
Hands-On Training:
Interactive sessions designed to build practical skills in camper engagement, activity facilitation, and emergency response procedures.
Skill-Building Workshops:
Focused workshops to develop key leadership and workplace competencies, including communication, conflict resolution, teamwork, and behavior management.
Mentorship & Feedback:
Each participant will be paired with an experienced ASA staff mentor who provides ongoing guidance, support, and constructive feedback throughout the summer.
Parent Communication Training:
Participants will learn effective strategies for communicating with parents and guardians in a professional and confident manner.
Post-Camp Evaluation:
At the end of the summer, participants will engage in reflection and evaluation sessions to assess their growth, celebrate achievements, and identify next steps for future development.
Counselor Application & Availability
Due to the sheer number of applicants for these positions, we are not able to hire everyone who applies. We will tentatively announce staffing in late May/early June and share more information about the staffing process. After this initial round we will continue to hire and schedule counselors and coaches on rolling basis throughout summer based on the number of campers.
Counselor in Training
The Counselor in Training position is an unpaid volunteer position for Recreational and Academy players entering 9th grade. Selected CIT’s will assist with set up and breakdown of camp equipment as well as help coaches and counselors supervise and maintain a safe and fun environment for campers ages 5-12 at our Recreational Day Camps. Players must work as a CIT before transitioning to a paid counselor position.
Camp Counselor & Coach
These are paid positions for Academy Coaches and ASA Academy players (counselors). Counselors must ages 16+ and have completed one season as a CIT. Selected Coaches and Counselors will teach within ASA curriculum, assist with set up and breakdown of camp equipment, supervise and maintain a safe and fun environment at camps throughout the summer.
