Alexandria Soccer Association (ASA) is thrilled to announce that our amateur (semi-professional) level men’s team — ASA Reds — will join United Premier Soccer League (UPSL) for the upcoming fall and spring seasons! The league compliments the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) platform where the team was recently crowned 2022 conference champions. In addition to competing in this national pro-development league we are excited to welcome new team leadership, coaches and players who will join a team with a rich history.

ASA coaches Will Hanna (NPSL 2022 Region Coach of the Year), Matt Curtin, and Daniel Chefena welcome Leland Creadick as the team’s General Manager, Xavier Matthews as his assistant, and Cristian Mejia to the coaching staff. The three join ASA from a local club FC 1749 where they found much success managing the team on and off the field. The group shared a joint statement looking towards the future, “This is an exciting time for FC 1749 as we shift our proven model of success and incredible fanbase into ASA! We are extremely excited to begin working with a community focused organization like ASA and will continue to push for the national level success of the team that contributes to growth of soccer in the Alexandria community.”

ASA Reds provides the highest level amateur soccer experience, in support of the community. This team provides Alexandrians and youth players the opportunity to continue playing during and after college and gives the broader community the opportunity to come together as fans of their City team.

We are extremely excited to formally welcome Leland and the team to ASA Reds. The new additions, just after the team’s inaugural NPSL season, will allow our club to build on our support of players who aspire to compete at the highest levels of soccer in this country. The broader development of the men’s and women’s ASA amateur teams is a growing asset to our community as all have a chance to watch incredible athletes right here in Alexandria. We can’t wait for what the future holds!
– Tommy Park, ASA Executive Director

Reds will hold tryouts on August 2nd and August 4th for the upcoming fall season. Email [email protected] for to register.

Established in 2020, FC 1749 saw impressive success in their first few years. The team finished second in their inaugural season in the Washington Premier League (WPL) and then proceeded to win back to back titles in both divisions of the storied Maryland Major Soccer League. Most recently, FC 1749 participated in UPSL, where they advanced to the playoffs in their first season.

The leadership of the team looks forward to growing the player pool, offering a high level training environment to develop youth in the DMV, and continuing to push towards success in the Mid-Atlantic region and beyond.
